How It All Started

Jackson's Story

At the age of 6, Jackson Baldwin was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma. From the beginning, Scott and Staci Baldwin knew they had a long, hard battle ahead of them and that Jackson's prognosis was grim. The next four years of their lives were filled with countless treasured moments, as well as with the pain and uncertainty that go along with battling cancer. Despite his long struggle, Jackson always kept his hope and faith alive and helped others to do so as well.

Jackson’s Pay It Forward Foundation

JPIFF assists families who have children with serious illness or injury. Our belief is that “paying it forward” is very influential, and we encourage others to do the same.

Since Jackson’s death in May of 2006, JPIFF has had the opportunity to assist families in our local area and surrounding communities by lightening the financial burden caused by serious illness.

Each year, we see the number of requests increasing. From our inception 18 years ago through September 2024, we have provided over $1.1 million in assistance to more than 225 families.

We have learned that iPads, fuel cards, and Visa gift cards are extremely helpful for families that are having to travel out of town for medical care. The iPads have been treasured by the parents to be able to stay in contact with family and friends back home by using them for Facebook postings and for video chatting.

While going through Jackson's cancer treatment in Spokane and Seattle, Staci and Jackson were often separated from Scott and Jackson's younger brother, Wyatt. They know how precious it would have been to be able to see each other every evening to tell each other goodnight and are thankful, through JPIFF, to be able to provide this opportunity to others going through similar situations.

Of course, the fuel cards and VISA gift cards are practical items, but when a family is in a situation where they have to travel hundreds of miles a month, the expenses can be debilitating. When dealing with a sick child, and the outlook is bleak, the financial worries are often there as well. By providing some financial assistance, it is our hope as a non-profit foundation, that we can ease the burden and provide some peace of mind to these families.

The Falls

When Jackson's Pay It Forward Foundation was established to honor the memory of Jackson, a beloved classmate felt compelled to commemorate him and all children who have prematurely lost their lives. The idea of creating a beautiful memorial for these young people took shape and blossomed with the help of many community donors and volunteers. Located at the 21st Street entrance to Lewiston near the Hells Canyon Grand Hotel, the Falls Memorial commemorates those who have passed before their 19th birthday with individual plaques.
